An Independent Web Site When I launched this web site several years ago, I was a director of Mt. Shasta Vista Property Owners Association. I set up the site as a representative of the board as a service to the board and to the members alike. But things changed before I got the chance to present to the board for reimbursement the expenditures involved in reserving the domain name and launching the site. First, there was widespread protest among the membership to the proposed governing documents drawn up during the previous year by the board. There was concern that the board was not in touch with the members' vision for our community. Then a combination of my own concerns about how the board operated and personal circumstances led me to resign from my position as a director. At the same time this was happening, members were expressing frustration with not having a voice at meetings or in the association newsletter, Vista Scope. Later, after I resigned, the board asked me to turn over the domain name and site to them but declined to reimburse me for actual expenses, saying that I was "asking to be paid for something done as a volunteer". So this is still an independent web site. I decided to continue to maintain this web site, but to do so at my own expense, which permits me to publish anything and everything I think is appropriate, without any control by the board or anyone else. So that is what I am doing now. As a result, members and board alike are invited to present articles, advertisements and opinion pieces for publication here. The site is dedicated to First Amendment Rights - the right of free speech. I will not publish anything libelous or otherwise inappropriate, but I will publish opinions whether I agree with them or not. I reserve the right to edit for brevity, grammar or appropriateness of content. Please email your submissions to marjorieking@reelmowersetc.com. The goal of the web site is to create a sense of community; to connect in a non-invasive way those of us who have chosen to live our lives in the privacy and freedom from unwanted contact that our subdivision affords us. Through this opt-in means, we can promote home security, provide information to help newcomers get settled in, improve our image in the larger community and communicate among ourselves about our community and what we hope to accomplish for its future. I hope that you will visit often, contribute information and share the link with your friends and neighbors. |
